Chotoku Kyan
(1870-1945) Master Shimabuku trained with Master Kyan from about 13-23 years old and Kyan was the most influential of Shimabuku's instructors. Chojun Miyagi

Choki Motobu
(1871-1944) Master Shimabuku trained with Master Motobu for about one year when Shimabuku was around 30 years old. This was a less formal training, but Shimabuku learned street fighting, makiwara training. Katas from Master Motobu: Niahanchin (Motobu's version) |
